Veni Vidi Wiki
Veni I came ….. to the website
Vidi I saw …. something interesting
Wiki I posted …… my entry.
In January, I read Wikinomics by Don Tapscott
and Anthony Williams. It’s a great read that
covers a lot of contemporary culture and what’s
happening in electronic business today. The
subtitle says it all, really…
"How mass collaboration changes everything."
At about the same time, there was a Chronicle of Higher Education supplement (January 5,
2007) entitled “Information Technology.” Sure there was a lot of geeky stuff in there and ads
for things with names like Xythos, but there were also some reflective pieces that suggested
that colleges and universities should be (and in some cases are) making good use of the ways
students today choose to communicate.
I thought, what if we could put wiki and social networking together across national boundaries
and create a site dedicated not to articles about “how I spent my weekend” and videos of cats
playing the piano, but instead comparisons of similar courses given in multiple countries.
Could students in the United States, Spain, and Argentina all taking courses related to the
colonization of the New World exchange viewpoints, compare ideas for term papers, and
maybe even engage in collaborative projects?
Worth a try I thought. I hope many of you will agree.
